Earlier this year, SVCC partnered with Southern Illinois University in an agreement to begin to offer SVCC students the ability to obtain a bachelor's degree remotely at a reduced cost from Sauk, giving them another avenue to further their education.

The agreement to offer The Saluki Step Ahead program here at SVCC was signed by college president David Hellmich and SIU chancellor Austin A. Lane April 26. The program allows qualified students who have completed their associate’s degree at Sauk now can study through SIU’s remote bachelor program in 12 different areas of study including, psychology, radiology, accounting, business, criminal justice, early childhood education, nursing, and more.

In addition, the agreement also grants students enrolled through the Saluki Step Ahead program a recurring 4000 dollar scholarship the two years following completion of their associate degree to aid in the cost of university tuition.

With many reasons why a student might be unable to move away to a university, this agreement now allows those too to further their education without the need of leaving home.

This agreement is just one of the many strides that have been made by Administration to see that education here at Sauk is more accessible and to see that that college can be an option for more.
